Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifications for this class?

This is NOT a beginner level class. Students MUST have completed a Pistol Fundamental or Basic course before taking this class. They need to know the universal rules of gun safety and be able to demonstrate safe gun handling, weapon familiarity, foundational marksmanship skills and work from a holster.

Students failing to meet the criteria and/or maintain safety requirements may be removed from training. Please ensure you are at an intermediate level before registering. If in doubt, contact the instructor.

What do I need to bring?

☐ Pistol and strong side outside-the-waistband or inside-the-waistband holster at 3 or 4 o’clock or appendix holster. Holster must completely cover the trigger guard and be stiff enough to re-holster the firearm with one hand. No cross draw or shoulder holsters.

☐ Bring a jacket, shirt or vest for concealment of your firearm.

☐ 200 rounds of ammo for your firearm (factory loaded full metal jacket or practice ammo,).

☐ A sturdy belt (at least 1.5” wide) that allows for the gun/holster to be hung from your strong side. (A half inch fashion belt is not strong enough to support a gun/holster.)

Magazine/ammunition pouch and 3 magazines for your firearm. Remember to bring eye protection and hearing protection (electronic preferred). "

☐ Please bring your own lunch, snacks, and water or beverage of choice (no alcohol). Lastly, have a good attitude and an open mind.

What caliber pistol do I need?

Service caliber pistols are preferable including .380, .357 sig, 9mm, 10mm, .40 and .45 caliber. No .22 or .50 caliber pistols or revolvers.

What should I wear?

Long pants, boots or tennis shoes (closed toe), crew neck shirt (no tank top or v-neck shirts). Hot brass down the shirt is a big bummer. Ball cap. Clothing appropriate for the weather as it can be +/- 10 degrees different from Boise/Meridian in the desert. And most important is a concealment jacket, shirt, or vest.

Will there be a rental available?

Rental pistol and holster in 9mm or .380 is available for $10. 9mm and .380 ammo available for purchase at current prices. Contact the instructor with questions or for rental.

Where does all of this take place?

There is a short classroom portion before hitting the range. The instructor will contact you after signing up for location of class and range, which can vary in location.

Can I conceal carry?

Yes, if you are at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States or a current member of the United States Armed Forces, and you are not disqualified under Idaho law from obtaining a concealed weapons license for a reason other than not having attained 21 years of age.

If you conceal carry, at no time, unless your life is in danger, may you unholster your firearm in the classroom.

Can I reschedule or cancel my appointment?

Please give 48 hours notice for rescheduling if unable to attend. The other option is to transfer the class to another student. There is a minimum student policy for each class. If The Warrior Within (TWW) cancels class due to weather, minimum student policy or any other reason, the student will have the option of rescheduling or getting a full refund. Cancellation is via email: please ensure you register with the correct email. TWW is not responsible for travel or other related expenses.

What They Say About The Warrior Within

This class helped showcase how to operate and practice with a pistol, taught by a passionate teacher who knows what they’re talking about. The presentation was clear, and the presenter was a friendly as they are professional. This is an instructor I’d easily recomment to those who are not familiar with or confident handling a firearm, especially considering how conscious he always was with safety.”

- Tomio K.

“Gary did lecture on the weapons important points of gun safety. Checking visually, finger check, never pointing gun if not knowing what is beyond or willing to destroy it. He did a great job above and beyond in helping my wife in a wheelchair. Highly recommend him for handicapped students also. All USCCA instructors I have personally had I am very happy with. Being former LEO over 14.5 years, full time Reserve Officer over 40 plus. USCCA Does great job in Idaho so far. God Bless Be Safe; Thank You Again.”

- Dennie M.

I can't recommend Gary enough. His instruction both in the classroom and on the range was simple, direct, and clear. It helped me not only improve my pistol skills, but also build confidence within myself to avoid being a victim. I would tell anyone who wants a competent, kind, and prepared instructor to take Gary's class. It was one of the best things I did, and I know that it will be the same for anyone else.
